fhnw.leadThe industry of external asset management faces numerous changes regarding regulatory requirements. Tightened supervision affects also Winterthur Consulting Group GmbH (WCG). This thesis focusses on an identification of changes and the readiness of WCG to them.
fhnw.initialPositionThe financial crisis of 2008 fundamentally shook investor confidence in the financial industry. Power seemed not to be distributed equally between financial service provider and their customers, and the risks were often not disclosed appropriately enough by asset managers. Accordingly, the regulatory institutions started to create plans for improved consultancy services and greater transparency. Especially external asset manager came to the fore of authorities since the industry is self-regulated. External asset managers face numerous challenges as costs increase new business models are in demand.
fhnw.procedureThe thesis consists of a theoretical part giving information of relevant events in the financial industry and especially the industry of external asset management focusing on regulatory changes. A second part is worked out on the bases of workshops with the client. In cooperation with the client, the author was able to become a deep insight into the company s business model. The combination of theory about regulatory changes and the analysis of Winterthur Consulting Group GmbH aims to generate a full overview of the company s situation related to tightened regulatory requirements.
fhnw.resultsEspecially for small external asset management service provider, an increased costs structure has a strong impact on profitability. Tightened regulations do have impact on costs and effort. The thesis shows that Winterthur Consulting Group GmbH already today has a strategy satisfying changed customer needs as well as numerous upcoming regulatory requirements. By an anticipatory business model, changes have been made continuously and an increase in costs threatening the business is not expected. With this thesis, the company benefits from a full overview of regulatory events affecting the business as well as from an analysis of the status quo regarding upcoming changes affecting the company. Lastly the paper sensibilizes the company on the importance of fulfilling regulatory requirements.
