fhnw.leadChina has lived to see high growth in the past decade and it thus boasts a growing middle class. Its income needs to be managed. Thus, there is a growing demand for educated financial advisors and IfFP wants to meet that market need. The project focusses on a due-diligence of the business venture.
fhnw.initialPositionThe IfFP has spotted a niche in offering private financial planning education in China. Due to the complexity of the Chinese markets and the yet to be defined product, a research of the business venture was deemed necessary. A complete business plan including a go or no go decision was defined to be the end result. It ought to tackle all relevant issues such as market potential, legal issues, risk and consumer profiles. The fact that the research team conducted the research entirely from Switzerland made the task not less challenging but also very interesting.
fhnw.procedureRegular meetings with the client, starting in July, were set to ensure a satisfying outcome. The group met once every 10 days to divide all tasks evenly among the group members. The predefined work schedule made sure that deadlines were met. Whenever new findings or questions arose, the group had the opportunity to contact the client which did help substantially. The project management courses delivered the necessary theoretical framework.
fhnw.resultsThe group was forunate enough to assist in developing a project at a very early stage. The help of the group was of importance and provided a source of great motivation for all members. Nonetheless, the challenging part was that the research needs constantly changed with every new insight of the client. The task was thus to adopt a flexible work approach and have regular meetings with the client in order to provide the necessary assistance. Our goal was to accompany the client in each step and to evaluate the relevant obstacles and risks. We did not manage to come up with great insights but we can assert that we supported the client in his reasoning as to wether or not to undertake the project. The client confirmed that he was happy with the outcome and finds that we were a valuable aid to the project. The satisfaction of the client was a top priority of the group since it helps to foster the reputation of these projects and to have other groups of students conduct valuable research.
