Abstract
POCD addresses Postoperative Cognitive Dysfunction (POCD), a frequent and serious complication affecting up to 53% of older patients after surgery and often associated with long‑term cognitive decline. The project develops an AI‑powered augmented / mixed reality system supporting prediction, prevention, and rehabilitation across the perioperative care pathway. For risk prediction, the project builds on Altoida’s award‑winning Alzheimer’s Disease Prediction Service (ADPS) to identify early cognitive impairment, a key risk factor for POCD. Prevention and rehabilitation are supported through an interactive virtual assistant and personalized, gamified cognitive training, designed with strong emphasis on usability and engagement for older adults. The project contributes to more effective, scalable, and patient‑centered postoperative care.
