- PublikationTracing – Artistic-scientific Practice in Transnational Research(2021) Bürgin, Mirjam; Schwarz, Astrid; Gottlieb, Baruch; Caviezel, FlaviaThe symposium Times of Waste – Handling Matter is an online event conceptualized and curated by the research team Times of Waste at FHNW Academy of Art and Design Basel, realized in collaboration with the Cluster Matters of Activity at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (MoA) and the Kunstgewerbemuseum der Staatlichen Museen Berlin (KGM). The event took place on Zoom from 17.-18.6.2021 and was providing a platform to discuss the engagement with (waste) material as well as response/able and careful ways of handling materiality in sciences, arts and collections. Tracing – Artistic-scientific practice in transnational research was a conversation of Mirjam Bürgin & Flavia Caviezel with Astrid Schwarz & Baruch Gottlieb (BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg), and took place on June 17, 2021 in the session Methodes & practices to re/present transnational material research. The video of the contribution is published online on the project's website.06 - Präsentation
- Publikationwastescapes – an audio walk in the trinational border area of Switzerland(Swiss Design Network Conference, 05.05.2017) Bürgin, Mirjam; Demleitner, Adrian; Caminada, Anselm; Mertens, Marion; Volkart Schmidt, Yvonne; Caviezel, FlaviaConducting the audio walk wastescapes by Flavia Caviezel and Adrian Demleitner (reserach team Times of Waste) at the conference Beyond Change. Wastescapes looks at processes of cleaning and disposal in the trinational area of Basel/Switzerland, bordering Germany and France. Travel routes are observed for organic or inorganic matter. The research focuses on local phenomena which are examplary of regional or global entanglements, like the Port area and its recycling services, import/export (CH), BASF lindane cleansing (F), mobile repair shops/re-use (G), invasive animals (common gudgeon) or a temporary use area after deconstruction of oil tanks (CH). The GPS-based audiowalk is played on smartphones. Using this technology as data carrier, themes such as raw material, waste and recycling are directly thematized. The wide ranging and varied pace of exploration offers a diversity of reception modalities. At best, visitors experience a kind of transformation through participation, merging the role of visitor and (empowered) actant. wastescapes is a joint project with Times of Waste and emerged from the research and exhibition project RhyCycling which focused on interactions and dependencies of the ‘human’ and ‘non human’ environment. www.rhycycling.ixdm.ch07 - Audio- oder Videomaterial
