Towards Social Integration II - Professionalising Social Work Practice in the Penal Systems of Switzerland and the Russian Federation

Abstract

The principal aim of the second phase of this transnational project, which has been ongoing since 2008, was the development of a process-oriented Methods Handbook for Social Work in the Penal System. Written for students and practitioners, the book focuses on the professionalisation of social work in the penal and corrections system as well as in the probation service. Integration processes in these areas are extremely demanding and require careful, professionally managed preparation. Such due diligence concerns both the social work measures taken in prisons and the provision of case-specific support and intervention planning aimed at successful reintegration and relapse prevention.
