Description
Abstract
The project investigates the impact of replacing LNG with alternative, carbon-reduced gas fuels in lean premixed combustion systems used in large dual-fuel engines. The optical engine test facility "Flex-OeCoS", ideal for such studies, will be upgraded to explore ignition and combustion in the main chamber and the associated pre-chamber. Starting from natural gas as a reference, variations in fuel gas composition under relevant engine operating conditions will be assessed through key parameter measurements. Extensive CFD simulations will accompany experiments, aiding facility development, data evaluation, and result transfer. This includes defining the requirement specification for a single-cylinder engine prototype application.
