Description
Abstract
The Robotic Assistant for Care Homes project addresses the growing staffing pressures in Swiss care homes by exploring how robotic systems can provide meaningful, integrated support in daily care work. Rather than focusing on technology alone, the project adopts a needs‑driven, human‑centered approach that considers the realities of care workflows and the diverse physical and cognitive abilities of residents. In collaboration with Spitex Unicare AG, the research team conducts interviews, observations, and shadowing studies with caregivers across multiple care locations. Based on these insights, the project investigates appropriate robot functionalities, interaction concepts, and physical form factors, with strong emphasis on safety, acceptance, and trust. The outcomes include an evidence‑based concept, an assessment of existing robotic platforms, and a stepwise deployment roadmap that lays the groundwork for future prototype development and real‑world evaluation.
