Description
Abstract
This project investigates how Augmented Reality can enhance in‑situ interaction with geospatial data in QField, an award‑winning mobile GIS application. Based on a qualitative user study with experienced field workers from diverse domains, the research identifies recurring challenges in spatial understanding and 2D/3D data interaction during fieldwork. Despite established GIS workflows, users face limitations when interpreting complex, layered information on site. The project explores the design of an AR viewer for QField, including suitable interaction concepts, visual representations, and form factors for real‑world use. The results provide a research‑based foundation for integrating AR into existing geospatial workflows to support more accurate and context‑aware decision‑making in the field.
