Abstract

Máquinas parlantes. El arte de atrapar el sonido presents the development of sound recording and reproduction through the heritage collections of the Biblioteca Nacional de España. Co-curated by Áurea Domínguez and María Jesús López Lorenzo, the exhibition combines historical phonographs, gramophones, recordings, documents, and advertising in six thematic areas. It examines how recorded sound transformed listening, domestic life, entertainment, and the music industry from the late nineteenth century onward while highlighting the Library’s work in conserving, restoring, cataloguing, and digitizing Spain’s sound heritage.
