In every sector, digitization continues unabated, with automation becoming a fundamental component of this shift. Educational settings are no exception, as the integration of mobile devices into classrooms increases interaction with students. For assessing student knowledge or for review, platforms such as Moodle and Kahoot! enable the conduct of quizzes. These platforms are popular for their stimulating content, providing motivation for students. Game-based learning platforms like Kahoot! are particularly engaging, enhancing the quiz experience with visible results after each question, thereby introducing a competitive and playful element. Studies have shown that the humanoid robot Pepper can effectively moderate and manage Kahoot! quizzes, receiving positive feedback for enhancing student engagement. However, the integration of Kahoot! with Pepper presents certain challenges. There is no standard interface for interacting with Kahoot!, necessitating website structure analysis and subsequent adjustments to Pepper for any changes. Additionally, these quizzes typically focus on isolated sessions without the option to link multiple quizzes in a competitive sequence. The KlickerUZH platform from the University of Zurich addresses these limitations. It enables the gamification of learning across multiple quizzes, allowing for an ongoing leaderboard that adds an element of excitement and competition over several teaching sessions. KlickerUZH also provides a defined interface for web service communication. This paper discusses the implementation of the integration of Pepper with KlickerUZH and explores the robot’s potential to enhance classroom interactions. Key features include: - The ability for groups of students to initiate quizzes independently of the lesson. - Pepper’s provision of feedback on student responses, highlighting both correct and incorrect answers. - Pepper’s role in managing and commenting on quizzes, focusing on student performance. - Continuous monitoring and commentary on a sequence of connected quizzes, maintaining a leaderboard and other competitive elements.
