Abstract
The BABOK Guide is a recognized standard of business analysis, which is intended to support the implementation of the profession of business analysis within companies. To know whether the business analysis is being implemented correctly or where there is room for improvement, it is essential to measure the business analysis performance. This thesis attempts to show a way in which it is possible to measure business analysis performance based on the BABOK Guide. The following two central questions arose for this thesis: • How can a maturity model be tailored to the BABOK Guidelines in order tos measure the maturity level of a company? • How can the maturity level of a company's BA performance be determined by means of a quick assessment and provide an appropriate insight into the current situation of a company? This thesis attempts to answer the two research questions by creating a maturity model and a quick assessment with the help of existing literature. In the first step, the existing literature was used to analyze which maturity models already exist in the literature. On this basis, a maturity model tailored to the BABOK Guide was then created based on CMMI. The maturity model created was discussed with a business analysis expert to incorporate an expert's opinion. Based on the maturity model, a quick assessment was created that matches the maturity model. CMMI was also used as the basis for the assessment. To test the applicability of the quick assessment and the maturity model in reality, the quick assessment was carried out with three companies. By carrying out the quick assessment with the companies and using the comments of the companies on the quick assessment, an analysis could be carried out which led to the answering of the research questions. The results of the assessments were not surprising for any of the companies and thus the assessment can reflect reality. Consequently, the hypothesis can be verified.
