Cloud-Based Collaboration Platform to enhance Communication in Strategic Decision-Making of a Medical Device Company

Abstract

Currently in the heavily regulated and complex sector of medical devices, the increasing governance demands along with rapidly growing competition are bringing further challenges in maintaining transparency and effectiveness for achieving sustainable strategic decisions. In order to stay competitive from the medical device industry perspective, enhancing communication internally can have an important impact in the strategic planning. From a medical device industry perspective, enhancing communication internally can have an important impact in the strategic planning. This study focuses on investigating the role and importance of communication and collaboration inside the SDM by looking into significant SDM process portrayals and indicating where it is possible to enhance SDM related elements through efficient communication & collaboration. Based on the findings, a specific cloud-based collaboration platform was developed and implemented in the medical device company Straumann. By building and implementing the platform, the study established practically how it was possible to efficiently collect and apply information derived from the internal collaboration platform to enhance communication inside the SDM process elements.
