Learning a new language or enhancing the skills in a foreign language is not only learnt in children ages. Learning is a lifelong process. With the raise of smartphones within the population the benefits of AR have increased (Skarbez et al., 2021). The way of learning is also accompanied by the digitalisation, which helps to develop learning materials and teaching methods. Studies (Garzón et al., 2019) show that AR helps to motivate the students and generate better learning outcomes. Most of these studies are done with university students. This paper aims to find out the how French language learners should use AR to improve their motivation. For that an AR prototype was developed with LensStudio. An experiment with a test and a control group was conducted and the results of both groups were compared with an assessment at the end of the experiment. As it was a qualitative study the teacher’s perspective is also interesting to compare to the students’ point of view. Therefore, two interviews with French instructors were conducted.
