Abstract
Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) are a trending topic and it is therefore important to properly manage them. API Management includes the holistic management of APIs on a platform. Accordingly, the API Economy is growing critically important to companies of all sizes that will be facing increased regulations, thus forcing them to provide APIs. The main objective of the thesis is to identify risks that API Management appliers can mitigate. Thereby, suppliers can offer better products and support from which the appliers can benefit. The focus here is on the key success factors, prerequisites, and support services during the APIManagement’s implementation and onboarding phases. In the end, an independent set of guidelines is derived by accumulating the suppliers’ and appliers’ perceptions of a successful API Management.There exists extensive literature for definition and categorization of APIs, REST Web APIs, API Management, API Management supplier, problems about APIs, and API success factors.However, only a few writings are devoted to mitigation of risks for implementing and running API Management. No independent literature was found for the prerequisites of appliers to implement API Management in their enterprise, as well as which support services are of benefit to appliers.
