Abstract
This master thesis presents a new critical edition of Joseph Fiala’s Sonata for Viola da Gamba or Baryton, Violin and Violoncello. The presented edition is based on a manuscript copy made by Franz Xaver Hammer dated between 1790 and 1799. This sonata presents an example of chamber music with a rather specific instrument - baryton, composed by a Bohemian composer, who was active in various European cities. This edition is accompanied by a critical commentary and report. The thesis shortly analyzes the style of this sonata and describes its historical context. The goal of this thesis is to widen the possible repertory of chamber music with viola da gamba and to provide performers with scholarly information on this peculiar type of music.
