Abstract
Software Testing is an integral part of the software development cycle. It offers means and mechanisms to erase defects in the new built piece of software that would have cost a lot of money if this defect would have been found in a productive environment. Especially the financial industry is under pressure to develop new software features as the number of regulations is increasing and only a software solution can provide full compliance with the regulation. Regulations are often very complex and for a single human being it is hard to keep the overview. To combine the human interaction with a piece of software, holistic reference models have been developed. These holistic reference models describe a general approach to manage IT in an organisation. Out of a company-wide introduction of a selected holistic reference model, the organisation deducts its framework to having a complete view on software testing. In the different holistic reference model, the importance of software testing differs a lot. Due to this fact, companies develop own frameworks for software testing. With the underlying case study, the leading financial service provider in Switzerland verifies the completeness and soundness of its approach and the completeness and soundness of different approaches of the theoretical holistic reference models.
