Abstract
Practicing effectively is a subject that occupied musicians and music pedagogues in the past and continues to do so in our current time. This “Masterarbeit” is an attempt to combine historical quotes of important musical figures from the Baroque until the Romantic time with practicing and teaching methods nowadays. It is my intention to give the reader food for thought on the following main topics: practicing in the presence of a teacher (chapter 1), repetition (chapter 2) and technical exercises as a basis for playing repertoire (chapter 3).
