Antonio Caldara (c. 1670-1736) remains a compelling figure in eighteenth-century music, yet much of his early repertoire, predating 1716, remains inaccessible to most. This master's thesis delves into three cantatas composed by Caldara in 1712-13 for the Converzazione at the Ruspoli Residence in Rome, focusing on manuscripts D-Müs Sant. Hs. 764, 781, 794 from the Diözesanbibliothek Münster. The meticulous transcription of these cantatas, ensures their presentation in a format conducive to comfortable modern musical notation. The thesis situates Caldara's cantatas within their historical and social context, providing insights into the milieu that influenced their creation. It offers a biographical overview of Antonio Caldara, emphasizing his relationship with his patron Francesco Maria Ruspoli, which sheds light on the composer's creative environment. Drawing from contributions by musicologists such as Berthold Over (‘‘La Fortuna di Roma’’) and Andrea Zedler (‘‘Kantaten für Fürst und Kaiser’’), the thesis aims to enhance understanding of the prevalent musical culture in early eighteenth-century Rome. Through transcription and analysis, it seeks to illuminate unpublished works from Caldara's oeuvre, fostering a contemporary appreciation of his musical heritage. The conclusion reflects on the thesis's exploration of Caldara's legacy. By the meeting with a transcriptions of chosen cantatas, this thesis contributes to a richer understanding of Caldara's contribution to early eighteenth-century musical culture, and encourage to continue exploration and interpretation of his musical treasures.
