Publikation Forced migration. Refugee voices(Hochschule für Gestaltung und Kunst Basel FHNW, 2023) Prokopchuk, AlinaWe all know what the word 'refugee' means. Everyone has heard at least a little information about them and almost everyone has their own picture of what refugees look like. But sometimes it may not match the reality. In my project, I explore the topic of modern realities in which forcibly displaced persons have to live. 'Refugee voices' is an online library which collects real-life stories of forcibly displaced people from Ukraine. Their experience of living abroad and the emotional part of being a refugee can be heard in the interviews. The voices of these people can help the viewer understand what modern refugees are going through. You will be able to hear about their real life and emotions, struggles and success as it is without processing.11 - Studentische ArbeitPublikation Tomorrow’s breakfast(Hochschule für Gestaltung und Kunst Basel FHNW, 2023) Semenova, YevheniiaThe idea of daily life photography and the role it plays in capturing the hope of people and their daily routine during times of war. I am struck by the resilience of those who endure, day after day, with unwavering faith in the promise of tomorrow. How do they carry on in the face of such hardship? How do they maintain a sense of hope and purpose, sustained by the simple routines of everyday life? This diploma project examines the use of food as a metaphor for hope and resilience in Ukrainian lifestyle photography, with a particular focus on the topic of impermanence in the context of ongoing war and uncertainty. Working on my own photographic series from Ukraine, I argue that the act of imagining and discussing one’s breakfast for the following day serves as a powerful symbolic gesture of optimism and perseverance in the face of adversity.11 - Studentische ArbeitPublikation Heritage. Preserving the past, protecting the future(Hochschule für Gestaltung und Kunst Basel FHNW, 2023) Sirochenko, ArinaThe short film "Heritage: Preserving the Past, Protecting the Future" is dedicated to the Ukrainian mosaic from the perspective of cultural heritage. By immersing myself in the historical, political and cultural context, I gained a comprehensive understanding of the desired look of my final product. I conducted extensive research on the origins and the current state of Ukrainian mosaics, and explored ways in which I could contribute to their continued existence. With my project I wanted to raise awareness of mosaics as a valuable cultural heritage with my project. Unfortunately, the efforts to preserve mosaics in Ukraine are insufficient, but the efforts of volunteers and activists are saving many mosaic works. War is destructive for mosaics and cultural heritage in general. Especially when the enemy’s has a goal is to destroy something important and special. The mosaic speaks of the events that took place in the country and has an incredibly unique value of preservation. So, my short film will reveal for you a part of Ukrainian culture from the side of the mosaic.11 - Studentische ArbeitPublikation Designing Ukrainian’s soft power. Could type design influence national identity?(Hochschule für Gestaltung und Kunst Basel FHNW, 2023) Ponomarenko, VladyslavThrough the idea of my thesis, “Designing Ukraine’s soft power – Could type design influence national identity?” my goal in the visualization part was to build Ukraine’s identity by creating a typeface. How the language sounds is the main core of this identity. In my design, I have created a system that introduces sound to every letter. I tried to find a way to match sound with the looks, not only in the letters themselves but also when they turn into words. In the modern design of Ukraine’s alphabet, the letters don’t sound as they look, especially compared to Russian. The Ukrainian alphabet looks the same as the Russian alphabet but has some extra letters. These letters are the only things that distinguish these two languages in the visual way. People could hear a difference in the language but not see it, for example, on the street. Rits Grotesk is a typeface based on the rules of phonetics and personal life experience of the Ukrainian language.11 - Studentische Arbeit
