EMOCION. E-Methanol compression ignition combustion

| dc.description.abstract | Renewable methanol is a promising technical and economic solution for net-zero, CO₂-free IC engines in applications not suited for electrification. The innovation lies in using compression ignition, creating a "methanol diesel engine" with maximum efficiency and power density. Feasibility and limitations need to be evaluated. An optically accessible engine test facility is used to study mechanisms under relevant pressure, temperature, and flow conditions, including varied injection strategies. Possible ignition promotion concepts will also be tested. In parallel, CRFD simulations of ignition and combustion will be conducted, supporting further research engine tests and guiding development towards sustainable, high-performance methanol-powered solutions. | |
