SACI-II - combustion system with alternative pre-chamber fuels

dc.description.abstractSpark assisted compression ignition (SACI) is a new combustion process to make IC engines more efficient while reducing emissions. An active pre-chamber can reliably control the auto-ignition of the premixed cylinder charge, resulting in an efficient combustion process suitable for difficult to burn fuels or lean air-fuel mixtures. The influence of the reactivity of the pre-chamber fuel on the hot reactive jets and the subsequent (partial) auto-ignition in the main chamber are investigated for hydrogen and ammonia.Experiments at the optically accessible combustion chamber "OPC" (FHNW-ITFE) and engine measurements (RWTH Aachen) enable the devel-opment of corresponding simulation models (University Stuttgart).
