Abstract
Project management and architecture approaches and their close relationship go back to ancient times. Today, enterprise architecture and the management of IT projects in theory still have an intense and direct relationship: maybe even more than in the ancient times, because the complexity required to build a stable enterprise architecture and to manage large numbers of complex IT Projects has increased. Nevertheless, emergency needs and the rapid implementation of IT ProjectPortfolio Management (IT PPM) and Enterprise Architecture Management (EAM) have harmed the practical relationship between these two IT-Management disciplines. Although the literature underpins the significant relevance of Enterprise Architecture Management for IT Project Portfolio Management, good practices or success stories are scarce and actual circumstances in today's complex organisations are not fully investigated and adopted. This Master’sThesis provides a scientific statement with an innovative approach about how the maturity of IT Project Portfolio Management, and therefore strategy implementation, can be improved by Enterprise Architecture Management. Based on a profound research methodology, two solution artefacts embodying this approach have been developed based on actual circumstances and concrete deficiencies of IT Project Portfolio Management in practice, indicated through a case study....
