This is a German version. The case 'Director Mr Storm administers his estate - demographics and succession planning at a NPO' is based on a research and consultancy project with a small-medium sized non-profit organization. The director, named here as 'Mr. Storm' is about to retire within the next 4 years. Also his two deputies, who are also head of the two other locations of the NPO, are about to retire within the next five years. This was taken up as reason by Mr Sturm to check on the whole hierarchical and leadership structure of the NPO. Also within the process of succession planning, the overall requirements of the jobs as well as the organizational structure were reconsidered. This case is suitable for students on Bachelor level on the subject of Human Resource Management with a clear focus on job requirements analysis in relation to strategic organizational change. It can also be applied to the subject of Organizational Behaviour with a special focus on the development of organizational structures. There is special value for students in executive on public and non-profit organizations, as it addresses the challenges of demographic change and succession planning, which is very much a focal point in today’s NPO. As such it can also be utilized on discussions on the interlinking of organizational and leadership development.
