Unperforming plastic. How to rethink recycled plastic?

Abstract

How do I reconcile my desire to design recycled plastic objects with my goal of advocating a future that minimises plastic consumption? How can I avoid becoming complicit in the idea that it's easy to get away with recycling plastics into fancy objects that are consumed without care, feeding an unsustainable recycling system? How can I avoid appearing sanctimonious? How can I combine a speculative/narrative approach with an impact-based approach?
