Through my teenage years all I did was spending my days at the skatepark and doing graffiti. The skate scene introduced me to streetwear, and even though our clothes used to be totally distressed and torn apart from falling on the concrete all the time, riding in style was an important thing. In that time, I fused my love for graffiti and streetwear, birthing the custom clothing brand, Bellavender. Art and Fashion serve as my outlets for engaging with my surroundings and thoughts. While art is often confined to a space, fashion provides a mobile interaction. Despite common elements, both are very distinct disciplines. Various criteria can be played on to make fashion seem more like art, and vice versa. “A sentence illustrates more than a thousand pictures.” – To me, a metaphor or a proverb is one of the most inspiring things there is. Most of my designs originate from an inspiring sentence. To a certain extent, those sentences make my designs more relevant over time. Fashion always changes. But some messages last forever and will always be valid. Adding meaning to a design makes it timeless. Born in the world of Arts / Established in the lines of Clothing / Bellavender is a playground, on which the boundaries / between art & fashion are being explored / Understanding those boundaries gives us the tools to move- or even redefine them. / To define when something is considered art or fashion / We create synergies and antagonisms / Where lies the perfect balance between both? / Wearable art.
