Mobile Augmented Reality for the Fasnacht The Assessment of the Potential and Feasibility of AR Technology for the Basler Carnival - a MAR Prototype

Abstract

The Basler Fasnacht is a culturally significant event for Basel and its population, which earned it an assignment as intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO. The question arises if conveying the traditions and values associated with the festival can be supported by an AR application. Thus, the need for a research-based approach to developing a MAR prototype for the Fasnacht arises to offer the client a feasibility study and a proof of concept on the prospects of such an application. To achieve this, the presented paper concentrates on creating a functioning MAR prototype for the event.
