Abstract
The more I learned about the fashion industry and about today's overconsumption landscape, the more scared and overwhelmed I was about starting with this project. It weighed heavily on me. It also felt like the responsibility of finding a solution and changing the system relied solely on my shoulders, as if it were my entire fault and my duty as a designer to do so. But how could I not feel responsible? When I came across critical design as a practice, it felt like a breath of fresh air to learn that I do not have to find a solution to a problem to be valid and valuable as a designer. Creating spaces for collective discourse, crafting narratives, challenging preconceptions, and kindling dialogues about alternative futures are all steps towards meaningful action. This thesis delves into the contemporary challenges of fashion consumption, aiming to foster introspection and transformation through the lens of critical design practices.
