Abstract
How can I get to know practices of storytelling that connect fictional worlds, yearn for utopian narratives and manifest themselves in material and crafted productions? I want to practice imagining together, to imagine places that are not built on exploitation, to imagine worlds, caves and hidden spiderwebs we can rest, rage and empower ourselves on. Dreaming of the places that give us strength and care, that believe in change as a powerful tool. Little utopias or big dreams; all welcome. Is a sewn book a publication? In a textile book I want to collectively make research visible, readable, feelable. In this research I translate and combine questions about the history of fabric production in Switzerland, how industrialization led to the loss of community, it’s ties to modern technology and our grandmothers, friends and fabrics as storytellers.
