Intercultural communication as a factor of creating the European social identity

Abstract

This article examines intercultural communication as a key factor in the formation of a European social identity within the context of globalization and European integration. Drawing on theoretical perspectives and experiences from the PIM Intensive Programme, it argues that effective intercultural communication fosters mutual understanding, shared values, and social cohesion among individuals from different cultural backgrounds. The paper highlights the role of intercultural competence, dialogue, and cultural sensitivity in overcoming differences and supporting identity construction at both individual and collective levels. It further discusses implications for education and professional training, emphasizing intercultural communication as both a prerequisite and an outcome of European social integration.
