- PublikationChoice of traditional or agile business analysis approach - A decision model to determine the use of the traditional versus agile business analysis paradigm(Hochschule für Wirtschaft FHNW, 2022) Amstutz, Jason; Telesko, RainerThe business analysis/project management approach is a key factor in project success or failure in the field of information systems. There are mainly two frameworks: the traditional and the agile approach. While the former is plan-driven and predictive, the latter is change-driven and adaptive in nature. A transition from traditional to agile methodologies can be observed, attributable to the fast-changing market conditions of today's economy, new technologies, and many other factors. Both approaches have advantages and disadvantages that limit their application areas. Another approach is the hybrid paradigm, combining elements of the two abovementioned approaches.11 - Studentische Arbeit
- PublikationAugmented Reality in the plastic piping industry How the combination of AR and visual AI can support, analyse and document the process of a plastic piping installation with an infrared welding machine(Hochschule für Wirtschaft FHNW, 2022) Worni, Simon; Inglese, Terry; Korkut, SafakThis research investigates how the combination of Augmented Reality (AR) and visual artificial intelligence (AI) can contribute to operational processes and analyse the quality of a piping installation with an infrared welding machine. The benefits of industrial AR have been discussed for training, maintenance, and human-robot interaction use cases. Furthermore, visual AI can be used through a cyber-physical system to inspect the quality in the manufacturing industry, connecting sensors to the internet and analysing the created data. However, a concrete proposal on combining AR and visual AI in the plastic piping industry for an infrared welding machine is currently missing. The conducted master thesis addresses this research gap.11 - Studentische Arbeit
- PublikationArchetypes of early adopters in quantum computing - In the context of supply chain problems(Hochschule für Wirtschaft FHNW, 2022) Schwarz, Philip; Ehrenthal, JoachimThe developments in quantum computing have rapidly increased in speed, and the so-called quantum advantage, the point where quantum computers will outperform classical computers, could soon be reached. Leading companies like Google, Amazon, IBM, Microsoft, or D-Wave are already hosting cloud services where companies can try out quantum computing possibilities. As supply chain problems often deal with complex optimisation problems, they often limit themselves through assumptions or need to take long processing time into account. The impact on the business is currently not addressed in the most distinguished journals in supply chain management. This inductive, qualitative study research collects data from 10 companies to investigate how practitioners identify, evaluate, select, and implement quantum computing applications for supply chain problems. First, six process design themes were identified, and three early adopter archetypes were developed. The results suggest that only companies that can balance the six different relevant dimensions (Strategy, Identification, Technology Type, Methodology Type, Organisation, and Evaluation) and constantly reevaluate the necessary actions in the context of the current Technology Readiness Level are more likely to select suitable quantum technology and methods for their supply chain problems. Finally, the results open up research in the supply chain area for the possible application of quantum computing and derive actionable recommendations for business leaders.11 - Studentische Arbeit
- PublikationOptimized Energy Market Bidding Strategies to Create Revenue from Vehicle to Grid Operation in the Swiss Logistics Sector(Hochschule für Wirtschaft FHNW, 2022) Schmitz, Martin Peter; Ehrenthal, Joachim; Wache, HolgerGiven the ever-increasing pressure created by climate change, everyone must contribute to preserving this planet. From a regulatory point of view, this is also the case for the logistics industry, which is facing the challenge of decarbonization as a significant change. Considering the resulting opportunities for new business models, this thesis deals with the statement," Vehicle-to-Grid operation can produce additional revenue by implementing optimal bidding strategies in the Swiss logistics sector through strategic energy market participation without affecting the efficiency of the core business of the logistics operation" and shows ways and strategies to confirm this. Common methods such as the systematic literature review, design science research, and experimental optimization are used. A model specific to the context is instantiated and applied using experimental optimization. As can be seen, profits or cost savings of 2,000€ to almost 70,000€ per month can be achieved under certain conditions without affecting the core business. This is supported by applying bidding strategies in the context of near-reality scenarios, applying actual context data - commodity prices - and using accurate exchange prices of EPEX Spot.11 - Studentische Arbeit
