It covers only two sites in the semi-arid Mediterranean area, and lacks data from Eastern Europe. The data include PM10 and/or PM2.5 mass concentrations, and aerosol particle size distributions. Such data sets are more comprehensive than those currently provided by air quality monitoring networks (e.g. EMEP, EUROAIRNET). Data available from 31 sites in Europe (called “The Network”) were reviewed. They were processed and plotted to allow comparisons in spite of differences in the sampling and analytical techniques used in various studies. A number of conclusions are drawn as follows: Background annual average PM10 and PM2.5 mass concentrations for continental Europe are 7.0±4.1 and 4.8±2.4 μg mˉ³, respectively. The EU 2005 annual average PM10 standard of 40 μg mˉ³ is exceeded at a few sites in The Network. At all near city, urban and kerbside sites, the EU 2010 annual average PM10 standard of 20 μg mˉ³, as well as the US-EPA annual average PM2.5 standard of 15 μg mˉ³ are exceeded. In certain regions, PM10 and PM2.5 in cities are strongly affected by the regional aerosol background. There is no “universal” (i.e. valid for all sites) ratio between PM2.5 and PM10 mass concentrations, although fairly constant ratios do exist at individual sites. There is no universal correlation between PM mass concentration on the one hand, and total particle number concentration on the other hand, although a ‘baseline’ ratio between number and mass is found for sites not affected by local emissions. This paper is the first part of two companion papers of which the second part describes chemical characteristics.01A - Beitrag in wissenschaftlicher ZeitschriftPublikation A Human-Centered Shelter Design for People on the Move in the Al-Sahel Region(MDPI, 21.10.2024) Al-Shoubaki, Hind; Psychogyios, Dimitris; Drilling, Matthias; Chatziefthymiou, Yioryos; Fragkou, Tatiani; Marinho Costa, André; Tsangrassoulis, ArisThis article addresses the development of a human-centered shelter design tailored to meet the specific needs of refugees in the Al-Sahel Region. It focuses on five essential aspects of humanitarian-centered design. The goal is to create a livable unit that accommodates the three distinct phases of an emergency, transitional, and durable situation. We have adopted a non-linear design approach to develop the refugee shelter unit. We engage in discussions with team experts following each data collection phase. The conceptual design of the shelter unit is intended to align with the refugee settlement’s natural growth while maintaining a degree of control over its evolution. We have outlined a spatial configuration for a residential unit designed for three to six individuals and various patio options. Additionally, we have devised plans for an education and healthcare facility, all designed with the same structure to bring a more organized approach to the organic growth of the camp. The design proposal adopts a process-oriented approach, incorporating refugees indirectly in the design and construction of their shelters. While we do not assert that the framework of a ‘refugee camp’ can be sustainable, our goal is to show that its planning, in the absence of alternatives, should adhere to sustainability criteria.01A - Beitrag in wissenschaftlicher ZeitschriftPublikation A Meta-Theoratical Reflection on Theory Developement in Augmentative and Alternative Communication(15.08.2002) Renner, Gregor; Lage, Dorothea06 - PräsentationPublikation A model of cardiovascular activation components for studies using autonomic receptor antagonists(Wiley, 1991) Stemmler, Gerhard; Grossmann, Peter; Schmid, Holger; Foerster, Fritz01A - Beitrag in wissenschaftlicher ZeitschriftPublikation A randomised controlled trial of the Smoke-free Class Competition in Northwestern Switzerland(12.09.2007) Schmid, Holger04B - Beitrag KonferenzschriftPublikation Abklärungen im Kindesschutz: Chancen und Risiken in der Anwendung von Verfahren und Instrumenten zur Erfassung von Kindeswohlgefährdung(Schulthess, 2014) Biesel, Kay; Schnurr, Stefan01A - Beitrag in wissenschaftlicher ZeitschriftPublikation Abschied von isolierten Lösungen(Pestalozzianum, 2002) Drilling, Matthias; Drilling, Matthias04B - Beitrag KonferenzschriftPublikation Abschied von isolierten Lösungen schulischer Gewaltprävention: Perspektiven eines integrativen Kooperationsmodells zwischen Sozialer Arbeit und Schulpädagogik(Psychosozial, 2005) Drilling, Matthias; Küchenhoff, Joachim; Hügli, Anton; Mäder, Ueli04A - Beitrag SammelbandPublikation Abschlussbericht der Evaluation des Bundesmodellprogramms "Wirkungsorientierte Jugendhilfe". Insights from the Swiss sex health survey(12.06.2023) Nideröst, Sibylle; Weber, Patrick; Hassler, Benedikt06 - PräsentationPublikation Achieving gender equality through paid and unpaid work: an exploration of mothers’ perspectives on work(MDPI, 05.04.2023) Madörin, Sarah; Jacinto, SofiaThe prevailing understanding of work as paid work is reflected in political efforts to achieve gender equality, which include emphasising that women, like men, should increasingly pursue paid work. This exploratory research aims to question whether this idea to align female with male life patterns is conducive to gender equality and to promote new insights based on mothers’ experiences. Our analysis is based on guided interviews with eight Swiss mothers in part-time employment who have at least one child aged three or older, and a working partner in the same household. The interviews show that these mothers do not share the expectation that all mothers should take on the main responsibility for domestic and care work, nor the expectation that all women should be doing full-time paid work. They would like to see greater acceptance and appreciation of different forms of work. This research concludes that gender justice can be understood as a freedom of choice that includes both the right to be doing paid work and the right to have time for domestic and care work - for men and women. Gender equality efforts do not have to be restricted to one form of work, but can leave room for different types of work and the appreciation of them.01A - Beitrag in wissenschaftlicher ZeitschriftPublikation Achtsamkeit (Mindfulness) in der Sozialen Arbeit. To achieve these ambitions, researchers should engage with communities, practitioners, and policy makers in a virtuous circle of research, policy, implementation, and active citizenship using the principles of co-design, co-implementation, co-evaluation, and cotranslation. This Viewpoint provides an integrated perspective on the challenges that hinder the delivery of healthenhancing UGBS and recommendations to address them. Our recommendations include: strengthening the evidence beyond cross-sectional research designs, strengthening the evidence base on UGBS intervention approaches, evaluating the effects on diverse population groups and communities, addressing inequities in the distribution and quality of UGBS, accelerating research on blue space, providing evidence for environmental effects, incorporating co-design approaches, developing innovative modelling methods, fostering whole-system evidence, harnessing political drivers, creating collaborations for sustainable UGBS action, and advancing evidence in low-income and middle-income countries. The full potential of UGBS as public health, social, economic, and environmental assets is yet to be realised. Acting on the research and translation recommendations will aid in addressing these challenges in collaboration with research, policy, practice, and communities.01A - Beitrag in wissenschaftlicher ZeitschriftPublikation 06 - Präsentation
