- PublikationBlockchain in Startup Financing: ICOs and STOs in Switzerland(North American Business Press, 12.07.2019) Kondova, Galia; Simonella, Geremia [in: Journal of Strategic Innovation and Sustainability]This paper provides a comparative analysis of the new blockchain-based start-up and small companies funding methods, namely, initial coin offerings (ICOs) and security token offerings (STOs) against the backdrop of traditional fundraising methods like venture capital and private equity building on the experience of Switzerland. In particular, the comparative analysis is based on a theoretical overview of the nature of these blockchain applications, the relevant legislative framework as well as recent market developments with a focus on Switzerland. The paper concludes that both ICOs and STOs are characterized by lower entry barriers for investors and higher cost efficiency as compared to traditional start-up fundraising methods. However, STOs provide more security to investors than ICOs due to their wider regulation.01A - Beitrag in wissenschaftlicher Zeitschrift

- PublikationLatent Profiles of Organizational, Occupational and Supervisor Commitment among Nurses and their Effects on Employee Well-being and Health(31.05.2019) Wombacher, Jörg; Konrad, Jonas; Raff, TilmannPurpose Demographic changes have led to a shortage of nurses in the healthcare sector. Nursing staff and patients are getting older and nursing cases are becoming increasingly complex. As a result, nurses’ workloads and stress levels have increased, and employee turnover has risen. Adopting a person-centered perspective, this study examines the effects of nurses’ commitment profiles on their physical and emotional well-beingand other work-related outcomes. The profiles will will be extracted based on nurses’ affective, rational, and normative commitment to their organization, occupation, and supervisor. Design and Methodology A survey was conducted among 1029 nurses from all public hospitals, nursing homes and outpatient care services from the Swiss Canton of Solothurn. A latent profile analysis using Mplus was performed to extract the commtiment profiles and examine their associations with the outcome variables. Results Four commitment profiles were found that differ both quantitatively (in terms of commitment levels) and qualitatively (in terms of shape). Results show, among others, that nurses with a high affective but low rational and normative commitment to all three foci (occupation, organization, supervisor) show higher levels of emotional strain than other profiles (e.g., low commitment levels) but also greater levels of work-life-balance and health. Limitations The cross-sectional nature of the survey precludes causal inferences. Because all data were self-reported, the associations found between profiles and outcomes may be inflated. Implications for research The person-centered approach allows an examination of complex interaction patterns among commitment foci and dimensions and their associations with work-related outcomes. A longitudinalstudy is in order to better understand causal directions and the development of complex commitment profiles over time. Practical implications The study results are relevant to practices in human resource management and retention in the healthcare sector. Because the commitment profiles refer to a broad, within-person observation of nurses, it is important to address the whole individual in interventions targeted at the improvement of unbeneficial commitment profiles. A strict focus on single commitment foci or dimensions may not be enough. Orginality, Value To our knowledge, this is the first comprehensive exploration of complex commitment profiles and their association with employee health and well-being in the nursing profession.06 - Präsentation

- PublikationNegotiating Beyond an Essentialised Culture Model: The Use and Abuse of Cultural Distance Models in International Management Studies(IGI Global, 07/2016) Jeive, Michael [in: International Journal of Bias, Identities and Diversities in Education]The analysis of international negotiations at bachelor and master level appears dominated by a conception of national culture (Søderberg & Holden, 2002; Shenkar et al 2008), and applies cultural distance models widely and inappropriately. Few business encounters are actually national in nature, being rather encounters between individuals or small groups with developed cultural practices and behaviours. There is a parallel tendency for users to abuse the models by failing to recognise the impact of relative power and agency; by ignoring culture as construct; by eliding small and large cultures (Holliday 1999, 2011); and by falling into the so-called ecological fallacy (Robinson 1950; Hofstede, Bond & Luk, 1993). Within the dominant neo-liberal ideological context (Read, 2009) presented in much of the business and management literature, the “othering” (Devlin 2011b, 2015) of those perceived as being outside this narrowly defined norm is a constant danger. In effect, a narrow minority is often represented as the mainstream and the vast majority as varyingly exoticized others. The aim of the paper is to investigate the theoretical and practical problems inherent in the national culture distance dominated approach before reflecting on how an approach which focuses on specific communication instances can open a pathway to understanding culture formation and cultural challenges in a more nuanced way.01A - Beitrag in wissenschaftlicher Zeitschrift

- PublikationSelf-sovereign identity on public blockchains and the GDPR(ACM, 01.04.2020) Kondova, Galia; Erbguth, Jörn [in: Proceedings of the 35th Annual ACM Symposium on Applied Computing]This paper studies three existing technical solutions for a self-sovereign identity on blockchains and analyzes the arising issues related to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) of the European Union (EU). In particular, the paper provides an overview of the existing Sovrin self-sovereign identity on the Hyperledger Indy public permissioned blockchain as well as uPort and Jolocom on the Ethereum public permissionless blockchain. The paper then concludes with a discussion on the GDPR-compliance of the blockchain-based identity concepts.04B - Beitrag Konferenzschrift

- PublikationSwiss Cantonal Banks: A DEA Efficiency and Productivity Analysis(Horizon Research Publishing, 30.05.2018) Bandyopadhyay, Trishit; Bobst, David; Hummel, Tobias; Kondova, Galia [in: Universal Journal of Accounting and Finance]This paper applies a data envelopment analysis (DEA) to study the efficiency and productivity changes in the Swiss cantonal bank sector in the period 2006-2014. The efficiency analysis is conducted by applying the production input-oriented DEA variable returns to scale model in a three-stage procedure. The productivity is studied by estimating a DEA-based Malmquist Productivity Index (MPI) that provides evidence of increasing productivity growth on average for the sector in the studied period. The main source of productivity growth as per the components of the Banker, Charnes and Cooper (BCC) MPI model is related to a frontier-shift (technological innovation) rather than to improvements in the technical efficiency. The decreasing average DEA scores in the post-global financial crisis period of 2008-2014 further support this finding. In the second stage of the efficiency analysis, the environmental factors influencing the productivity growth are analysed by conducting a general method of moments (GMM) regression. The results provide evidence of a positive and statistically significant relationship between the new annual residences per canton and technical efficiency. In the third stage, the environmental variables from the second-stage regression are included within the constraints of the first-stage DEA model as proposed by Ray [1]. The third-stage DEA scores support the evidence of slightly decreasing average post-global crisis technical efficiency. The overall average technical efficiency in the Swiss cantonal banking sector, however, remains at a relatively high level in the studied period.01A - Beitrag in wissenschaftlicher Zeitschrift
