Anhand eines Anwendungsbeispiels werden schließlich die Potentiale einer materialorienterten Nivellierung für einen Automobilhersteller bestimmt.02 - MonographiePublikation Perspectives on human-computer interaction and culture(Universität Basel, 2022) Linxen, Sebastian; Opwis, Klaus; Sturm, ChristianDue to the global distribution of technology and its use in highly culturally diverse settings, an understanding of culture, in particular the connection between culture and technology use, is becoming more relevant for distributors and developers of such technology, in order to survive in a dynamic market environment and to be able to offer products that are tailored to the requirements of the specific end user. Therefore, the overarching topic of this thesis is the exploration of the role of culture in human-computer interaction (HCI) as a key factor to understanding the user. This thesis sheds light on the role of culture and socio-cultural systems and their multi-layered manifestations in human-computer interaction. The related research consists of two main strands: The first strand (manuscript 1 and 2) focuses primarily on examining the extent to which national culture is considered in HCI studies, and the extent to which subjects from different national settings are part of HCI studies. The key findings of the first strand are that HCI research tends to neglect culture, or, if it is considered, it is mostly treated narrowly, as a single variable that measures national cultures. The restricted cultural perspective becomes further evident when studying the participant samples from the most relevant HCI conference. There was a strong focus on participant samples from countries whose inhabitants tend to be Western, educated, industrialised, rich and democratic (WEIRD) and most of the other countries were clearly underrepresented. The second strand of this thesis (manuscript 3 to 6) centres on the examination of the relationship between HCI and cultural as well as socio-cultural systems, particularly in knowledge-intensive practices. It shows the rich practices of technology appropriation in study settings outside of the typical WEIRD contexts. Furthermore, it explores the manifold, rich and often complex ways in which the use of technology is impacted by structures and practices of cultural systems, and, in the same way, transforms these systems. The results from both strands of enquiry show that the HCI community should consider the diversity of potential technology users in its research and recommendations. Only in this way can technological developments be realised that are globally useful and usable on a broad scale. To support the HCI community on this path, alongside suggestions for further research projects, this thesis presents several detailed recommendations on how to increase diversity and the consideration of cultural aspects in HCI research and the HCI community.11 - Studentische ArbeitPublikation Optimized Computational Diabetes Prediction with Feature Selection Algorithms(2023) Li, Xi; Curiger, Michèle; Dornberger, Rolf; Hanne, Thomas04B - Beitrag KonferenzschriftPublikation Computational Intelligence in Logistik und Supply Chain Management(Springer Gabler, 2023) Hanne, Thomas; Dornberger, RolfPräsentiert den aktuellen Stand der Technik beim Einsatz von Computational Intelligence in der Lieferkette. Behandelt Probleme in den Bereichen Bestands- und Produktionsplanung, Scheduling, Transportplanung. Überprüft die verfügbare Software und Informationssysteme für jeden der behandelten Problembereiche.02 - MonographiePublikation A flexible, extendable and adaptable model to support AI coaching(Springer, 2023) Duhan, Ritu; Pande, Charuta; Martin, Andreas; Hinkelmann, Knut; López-Pellicer, Francisco J.; Polini, AndreaWe present a model based on coaching definitions, concepts, and theories to support AI coaching. The model represents the evidence-based coaching practice in different coaching domains by identifying the common elements in the coaching process. We then map the elements of the coaching model with Conversational AI design and development strategies to highlight how an AI coach can be instantiated from the model. We showcase the instantiation through an example use case of an HIV coaching chatbot.04B - Beitrag KonferenzschriftPublikation Domain-specific conceptual modeling. Concepts, methods and ADOxx tools(Springer, 2022) Karagiannis, Dimitris; Lee, Moonkun; Hinkelmann, Knut; Utz, WilfridThis book demonstrates the significance of domain-specific conceptual modeling through new research and development approaches that are manifested in each of the chapters. They include novel modelling methods and tools that emphasize the recent results accomplished and their adequacy to assess specific aspects of a domain.03 - SammelbandPublikation How to support customer segmentation with useful cluster descriptions(Springer, 2015) Witschel, Hans Friedrich; Loo, Simon; Riesen, Kaspar; Perner, PetraCustomer or market segmentation is an important instrument for the optimisation of marketing strategies and product portfolios. Clustering is a popular data mining technique used to support such segmentation – it groups customers into segments that share certain demographic or behavioural characteristics. In this research, we explore several automatic approaches which support an important task that starts after the actual clustering, namely capturing and labeling the “essence” of segments. We conducted an empirical study by implementing several of these approaches, applying them to a data set of customer representations and studying the way our study participants interacted with the resulting cluster representations. Major goal of the present paper is to find out which approaches exhibit the greatest ease of understanding on the one hand and which of them lead to the most correct interpretation of cluster essence on the other hand. Our results indicate that using a learned decision tree model as a cluster representation provides both good ease of understanding and correctness of drawn conclusions.04B - Beitrag KonferenzschriftPublikation A semantically-enhanced modelling environment for business process as a service(IEEE, 2017) Hinkelmann, Knut; Kurjakovic, Sabrina; Lammel, Benjamin; Laurenzi, Emanuele; Woitsch, Robert; Li, Gang; Yu, YaleIn this paper we present a hybrid modeling approach which supports the continuous alignment of business and IT in the cloud. Business Process as a Service provides the end-to-end cloud support for business processes instead of single applications. A graphical modelling environment allows non-technical modelers to design business processes and to specify requirements in human-interpretable way. Via semantic lifting, the graphical models can be annotated with classes and values from an enterprise ontology. The BPaaS Ontology contains the relevant classes for the smart Business and IT-Cloud alignment. It supports the modeler in using a standard terminology and thus ensures consistent modeling.
