Publikation Reproducing Motherhood(2018) continent, continent; Allen, JamieReproducing at L’Automatica, Barcelona is a week of reading, discussions, writing and making in the Catalan capital about maternity, as a mode of creation, care, and continuance. A collaboration between two experimental, autonomous collectives interested in the composition of publics — the online journal continent. and the print shop and community publishing initiative L’Automatica — we invite discussions that nurture the problems and potentials of giving birth to all things published, authored, built, generated, designed, shaped, knocked together and knocked up. Do the presumed public making labours of writing, making images, publishing, printing and reproduction require us to “love our monsters” and “kill your darlings”? Do these impulses speak to those same impulses of care, attention and guardianship, that are present in the consuming and ambiguous hardship, patience, love, altruism, friendship, attention and responsibilities of motherhood? What response-ability do we assume or presume when we give birth to words, to ideas, and weave them into a material (mater, or mother) of, for example, a printed page. Over five days of collaboration in May, we invite writers, artists, thinkers, mothers, fathers, sons and daughters interested in this questioning of motherhood, to share thoughts, voice, words, texts, images, sounds and actions —new and old— that will find their way into printed object, produced and reproduced on site with L’Automatica. Resonances between motherhood and creative labor, from the anecdotal to the analytic, the philosophical to the everyday, are all encouraged and more than welcomed. By the end of these Spring days in Barcelona we hope to create, together, a compendium of care, a handbook of hospitality or a card deck of custodianship, gifted to all those in attendance, and beyond. Is there anything you would like to “bring up”?06 - PräsentationPublikation Ways of Working Together(2021) Allen, JamieIn the last two decades, many different proposals and concepts of artistic and art-based research have been developed and explored. Participatory Art Based Research (PABR) is one of them. Within the online event “Responses to Ways of Working Together”, experts and practitioners from the field of artistic research came together to discuss strategies, potentials and problems of PABR. Special guests Jamie Allen, Kai van Eikels, Anke Haarmann, Marijke Hoogenboom, Brandon LaBelle, and Isabelle Stengers were invited to respond to research formats that are documented on the online resource pab-research.de. Pab-research.de is the outcome of a two-year research process that evaluated and analysed 50 participatory research projects. Common characteristics of these projects were identified and extrapolated into research formats, that are now presented on the online resource to facilitate their transposition to and their use in other fields and contexts.06 - PräsentationPublikation Conference of the Public: CoCreating Article 6(2019) Allen, Jamie; Sobecka, KarolinaConference of the Public: CoCreating Article 6 is a workshop taking place prior to the COP 25 Santiago Climate Change Conference in December 2019. Developed collaboration with Karolina Sobecka, and with workshop participants, a collective reconstitution of Article 6, one of the most contentious parts of the Paris Climate Agreement, was variously performed. These recreations which take various forms, including use of the central document in protest signs for the autumn 2019 Friday for Futures demonstration in Basel, Switzerland. The workshop is held as part of the CoCreate programme at the Academy of Art and Design, FHNW University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland, focusing here on the role of artists, designers, students and non-experts, as an exercise of 'civic epistemology' applying contextual, embodied, and trans-disciplinary knowledge to reasonings about how cooperation on climate action should be organized between countries, individuals and other parties.06 - Präsentation
