Abstract
Career development is a lifelong endeavor that begins in childhood and typically ends after retirement from paid work. Adolescents develop career goals by exploring their own abilities, interests, values, and career opportunities. How adolescents cope with this task varies considerably. Personal characteristics as well as social, institutional, and economic contexts play an important role in how adolescents prepare for their future occupational career.
