Abstract
Today, companies invest a lot of time and effort in risk management procedures. Such an increased interest in risk management is motivated by complex compliance requirements as well as the need to minimize business losses and improve business outcomes. Therefore, it is important that employees in an enterprise are fully aware of all applicable risks and their possible impact on other business constituents, such as business motivation, business processes, business decisions and compliance requirements. However, an existing approach that explicitly regards such dependencies in one holistic model has not been identified. This master thesis addresses this gap and deals with the development of a meta-model that helps increase overall risk awareness in enterprises by improving transparency of dependencies and relationships between risks and business motivation, business processes, business decisions and compliance requirements. Such, a modelling technique comprising of a modelling language (syntax, semantics and notation of concepts) and a modelling procedure (steps to apply the language) has been developed and implemented in a modelling tool. From a methodological point of view, the design research strategy has been used. The data collection methods include literature review and interviews. The developed modelling technique has been critically evaluated and its value-add and the potential to increase risk awareness in enterprises have been confirmed. Also, some suggestions for future research are provided.
