A case study: assessing effectiveness of the augmented reality application in Augusta Raurica

This paper aims to study and compare the augmented reality experience of two user groups at Augusta Raurica, a Roman archaeological site and an open-air museum in Switzerland. The user groups differentiated within the scope of this study digital natives and digital immigrants. The paper applies the experience economy framework for assessing the differences between the user groups. The data gathered from the surveys and analysis of selected interviews reveal that digital immigrants have better engagement with the augmented reality application of Augusta Raurica than digital natives do. The findings are supporting the debate on assisting tourism destinations to develop more engaging augmented reality content targeting both user groups.

A classification for business model types in e-commerce

Internet business models have been widely discussed in literature and applied within the last decade. Nevertheless, a clear understanding of some e-commerce concepts does not exist yet. The classification of business models in e-commerce is one of these areas. The current research tries to fill this gap through a conceptual and qualitative study. Nine main e-commerce business model types are selected from literature and analyzed to define the criteria and their sub-criteria (characteristics). As a result three different classifications for business models are determined. This study can be used to improve the understanding of essential functions, relations and mechanisms of existing e-commerce business models.

A Collaborative Approach To Maturing Process-Related Knowledge

We introduce a new approach supporting knowledge workers in sharing process-related knowledge. It is based on the insight that - while o ering valuable context information - traditional business process modelling approaches are too rigid and in exible to capture the actual way processes are executed. Therefore, business process models are made agile and open for changes during execution. To achieve this, the strict distinction between build time modelling and run time execution are softened and process activities are represented to the users in a way that allows for individual adaptations. That can be done by attaching resources, commenting on an issue or adding problems and solutions to an activity or process. In addition activities can be delegated or new (sub-)activities can be added. Thus, the model can adapt to the reality of actual process executions and valuable resources and experiences are proactively presented to users in the right context. A double-staged Approach is chosen to apply the model in the real application scenario of a university.

A comparative study of pattern recognition algorithms for predicting the inpatient mortality risk using routine laboratory measurements

Laboratory tests are a common and relatively cheap way to assess the general health status of patients. Various publications showed the potential of laboratory measurements for predicting inpatient mortality using statistical methodologies. However, these efforts are basically limited to the use of logistic regression models. In the present paper we use anonymized data from about 40,000 inpatient admissions to the Inselspital in Bern (Switzerland) to evaluate the potential of powerful pattern recognition algorithms employed for this particular risk prediction. In addition to the age and sex of the inpatients, a set of 33 laboratory measurements, frequently available at the Inselspital, are used as basic variables. In a large empirical evaluation we demonstrate that recent pattern recognition algorithms (such as random forests, gradient boosted trees or neural networks) outperform the more traditional approaches based on logistic regression. Moreover, we show how the predictions of the pattern recognition algorithms, which cannot be directly interpreted in general, can be calibrated to output a meaningful probabilistic risk score.

A computational literature analysis of conversational AI research with a focus on the coaching domain

We conduct a computational analysis of the literature on Conversational AI. We identify the trend based on all publications until the year 2020. We then concentrate on the publications for the last five years between 2016 and 2020 to find out the top ten venues and top three journals where research on Conversational AI has been published. Further, using the Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) topic modeling technique, we discover nine important topics discussed in Conversational AI literature and specifically two topics related to the area of coaching. Finally, we detect the key authors who have contributed significantly to Conversational AI research and area(s) related to coaching. We determine the key authors' areas of expertise and how the knowledge is distributed across different regions. Our findings show an increasing trend and thus, an interest in Conversational AI research, predominantly from the authors in Europe.
