Based on the communicative forms of spatial perception developed in the research project Grenzgang - Artistic Investigations on Perception and Communication of Space, we’re proposing a walk through Rotterdam which discusses methods of artistic research as they relate to the fluctuating space of the city and inducts the experiences of the participants into the digital continuation of the project Grenzgang.

Für die Publikation HEFT des Verbandes der Lehrerinnen und Lehrer für Bildnerische Gestaltung Schweiz (LBG) beschreibt Markus Schwander, wie am Institut Lehrerufe Gestaltung und Kunst HGK FHNW aus Forschungsprojekten konkrete Hilfestellungen für Lehrpersonen entstehen. Vorgestellt werden zwei Publikationen, für welche auf unterschiedliche Weise Aufgaben für den Unterricht entwickelt wurden. In Zusammenhang mit dem Forschungsprojekt „Grenzgang“ verfasste Simone Etter im „WALKBOOK“ 13 promenadologische Raumexperimente, in Zusammenhang mit der Strategischen Initiative " der FHNW entstand das Lehrmittel „formen. 3D-Druck lernen und lehren“ von Stefanie Mauroux, Falk Scheidig und Markus Schwander mit 7 Aufgaben zur Förderung des Zuganges zum 3D-Drucker.

At the core of the presentation is the documentation of the research project GRENZGANG in the integrated catalogue of the media library of the Academy of Art and Design (FHNW HGK). For two years GRENZGANG has been occupied, in the mode of artistic research (Frayling 1993, Tröndle 2012, Mersch 2015, Fernandes, Miranda 2015 ), with aspects of urban history, drawing on architectural heritage and cultural history. Both the application of partly digital (documentary) media and the formats of the resulting artworks and documentations illustrate how complex space and spatial experience in an increasingly digitally over-laid world can look. The artistic interpretations and interventions of GRENZGANG make those dimensions of specific places and spatial experiences sensorily accessible which are, for the most part, more difficultly perceived. The integrated catalogue of the media library attempts to display such artistic works in their heterogeneity and variety alongside other rather classic library resources. Typical challenges occurring on the threshold of the catalogue/archive in the aftermath of complex artistic research projects will be elucidated

Collaboration of the SARN Board member Flavia Caviezel with the other members and organizers on the conference concept; conducting a table talk at the SARN conference Art Research Work. The 2017 SARN Conference explored the working conditions prevailing within artistic research. In the last 20 years, an institutionalization and academization of artistic work known as “artistic research” has taken place. Arts universities are establishing research institutes, promoting PhD programs, and competing against universities for funding. Most artists only have small workloads in institution-based research. As much time is spent on projects and exhibitions as on teaching and earning a living. Although much of this work receives great symbolic recognition, it remains unremunerated. Working in such diverse contexts demands great flexibility regarding methods, skills, and the ability to reconcile several roles. The two-day SARN Conference reflected on the processes involved in institutionalizing the changing material and ideological preconditions of artistic research in recent years from the perspective of artistic researchers. The conference aimed to better understand the current situation of artistic researchers, to outline concrete ideas for future work-life strategies and for other funding and job opportunities, and to formulate concrete demands for self-determined artistic research. The Conference took place at Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK). In line with the conference topic, we reflected on working conditions at ZHdK’s new building.

The text describes specific aspects of the documentation of the research project "Grenzgang" in the integrated catalogue of the media library of the Acad-emy of Art and Design (FHNW HGK). "Grenzgang – Artistic Investigations on Perception and Communication of Space in a Trinational Border Area" – is anchored geographically in Basel and the surrounding region, while its method can be located between artistic research and promenadology. References to research results from various project phases are documented with diverse analogue and digital media in the media library’s integrated catalogue. This catalogue attempts to display such artistic works in their hetero-geneity and variety and to make them accessible for research alongside other more classic library resources. The contribution submitted here elucidates typical challenges which can occur on the threshold of the catalogue/archive in the aftermath of complex artistic research projects. Specifically, the ques-tion arises of what happens when an active investigation like “walking” en-counters an apparently static collection facility like the media library.

Im Rahmen der Strategischen Initiative EduNaT untersuchte ein interdisziplinäres Team Formen der Vermittlung von 3D-Software für den 3D-Druck. Daraus entsteht bis Ende 2017 die Publikation „3D-Druck lernen und lehren“ herausgegeben von Stefanie Mauroux, Falk Scheidig und Markus Schwander. Schwerpunkte des Lehrmittels sind eine möglichst vielfältige Verwendung von Softwares, die Nähe zu analogen Arbeitsweisen und Verbindungen zur Schulrealität (andere Fächer, Klassensituation). Projektteam: Markus Schwander (Projektleitung), Stefanie Mauroux (beide Hochschule für Gestaltung und Kunst), Falk Scheidig, Ulla Klingovsky (beide Pädagogische Hochschule). Anne Herrmann (Hochschule für angewandte Psychologie) und Pascal Schleuniger (Hochschule für Technik).

Markus Schwander befasst sich in «Shattered Flow» bildnerisch mit landschaftsästhetischen Fragen und hat dafür verschiedene Bergstürze erkundet. Entstanden sind Collagen und Zeichnungen. Die Arbeiten zielen nicht auf die Repräsentation der heutigen Erscheinung, sondern sind Versuche, Bewegung vorstellbar zu machen. In diesem Sinne sollen die Bilder Vorstellungen in den Köpfen verändern und so anregen, vertieft über unser Verhältnis zur Natur nachzudenken. Ergänzt werden die unterschiedlichen Bildserien durch Textbeiträge von Franziska Glozer und Annemarie Bucher. Überlegungen zur künstlerischen Forschung von Markus Schwander und ein Index seiner seit 2008 entstandenen Arbeiten zu Bergstürzen vervollständigen den Überblick.
