Since the main stress‐related steroid cortisol follows a circadian rhythm, often hair is analysed to quantify this steroid. Further, hair analysis gives the unique possibility of long‐time monitoring by analysing a certain segment of hair, since hair grows on average 1 cm per month. Hair is a difficult matrix due to the complex sample preparation with many steps including washing and grinding, followed by various extraction steps. Additionally, steroids are endogenous and are therefore present in the hair matrix. Hence, no analyte free matrix is available, which is needed for the quantification via external calibrators. To overcome this problem, the so‐called surrogate methods can be used, for which a 13 C 3 labelled or deuterated reference compound of the steroid of interest is used for quantification. In the present study, a surrogate method was developed and fully validated for the quantitative analysis of seven steroids in human hair. Validation experiments showed that the method is further suitable for semi‐quantitative analysis of estradiol. However, it is not suitable for the analysis of androsterone and DHEAS. The method was successfully used to analyse steroids in a comprehensive study of 360 adolescent hair samples, enabling research into stress markers.01A - Beitrag in wissenschaftlicher ZeitschriftPublikation Antimuslimischer Rassismus und Islamfeindlichkeit(V&R unipress, 2019) Kassis, Wassilis; Uçar, Bülent02 - MonographiePublikation Aporien homogenisierender Lesesozialisationsforschung(Vereinigung für Angewandte Linguistik in der Schweiz, 2007) Kassis, Wassilis01A - Beitrag in wissenschaftlicher ZeitschriftPublikation Assessing attitudes towards mutual acculturation in multicultural schools. Conceptualisation and validation of a four-dimensional mutual acculturation attitudes scale(Elsevier, 09/2021) Sidler, Petra; Kassis, Wassilis; Makarova, Elena; Janousch, ClarissaAssessment of acculturation attitudes usually has focused on the importance of two dimensions: first, immigrants’ maintenance of cultural heritage and, second, immigrants’ adoption of the majority culture. Because acculturation is a reciprocal interaction, we extended a bidimensional scale to four dimensions to assess mutual acculturation. Given the importance of the social context for acculturation and schools as a crucial context for immigrant pupils’ acculturation, the scale extension was validated within the context of school. We hypothesised that acculturation attitudes are held not only towards immigrant pupils but also towards native pupils and towards schools’ responsibility to support intercultural contact. The study sample comprised 364 secondary school pupils in Swiss multicultural schools. Using exploratory structural equation modelling, we validated four distinct dimensions of acculturation attitudes: attitudes towards immigrant pupils’ (a) heritage culture maintenance and (b) adoption of the dominant culture and attitudes towards (c) native pupils acquiring cultural knowledge and (d) schools enabling intercultural contact. We conclude that the proposed four-dimensional scale is a valid tool for assessing attitudes towards mutual acculturation within the school context and that acculturation attitudes are held not only towards immigrant pupils but also towards native pupils and schools.01A - Beitrag in wissenschaftlicher ZeitschriftPublikation 01A - Beitrag in wissenschaftlicher ZeitschriftPublikation Beliefs and attitudes toward inclusion of student teachers and their contact with people with disabilities(Frontiers Research Foundation, 22.03.2021) Kunze, André; Luder, Reto; Kassis, WassilisThe findings show that the student teachers report significantly more positive contact with people with disability than negative ones. At the same time, student teachers who are in contact with people with disabilities report a significantly more positive attitude toward inclusion at the beginning of the term, and a higher self-efficacy in dealing with disruptive behavior and interdisciplinary cooperation, as well as an individualizing teaching structure. They also report fewer concerns and negative attitudes than student teachers without such contact. Contact with people with disabilities was significantly related to an anticipated willingness to take on an inclusive class.01A - Beitrag in wissenschaftlicher ZeitschriftPublikation Bericht zum Thema 'Gewalt in der Schule', in der Gemeinde Aesch (BL)(Forschungsstelle für Schulpädagogik und Fachdidaktik der Universität Basel, 2000) Kassis, Wassilis; Schmidlin, Sabina05 - Forschungs- oder ArbeitsberichtPublikation Bericht zum Thema 'Gewalt in der Schule', in der Gemeinde Dornach (SO)(Forschungsstelle für Schulpädagogik und Fachdidaktik der Universität Basel, 2000) Kassis, Wassilis; Schmidlin, Sabina05 - Forschungs- oder ArbeitsberichtPublikation Bewältigungsmuster Jugendlicher an Schweizer Schulen(Universität Bern, 1996) Kassis, Wassilis01A - Beitrag in wissenschaftlicher ZeitschriftPublikation 05 - Forschungs- oder ArbeitsberichtPublikation Bewertungen der Einführungsphase Erziehungswissenschaften und des Einführungspraktikums der SLA durch die Studierenden und die Praxislehrkräfte; Endbericht Kurs 1996(Universität Zürich, 1996) Kassis, Wassilis05 - Forschungs- oder ArbeitsberichtPublikation Bildungsprozesse und Intersektionalitätsstrukturen(Barbara Budrich, 2009) Kassis, Wassilis; Kronig, Wilfried; Weber, Martina; Stalder, Ursula; Melzer, Wolfgang; Tippelt, Rudolf04B - Beitrag KonferenzschriftPublikation A cross-national validation of the shortened version of the adolescent stress questionnaire (ASQ-S) among adolescents from Switzerland, Germany, and Greece(Frontiers Research Foundation, 09.04.2021) Ertanir, Beyhan; Rietz, Christian; Graf, Ulrike; Kassis, WassilisThe experience of stress is receiving increasing attention in the context of adolescent mental health, which is why a valid and reliable stress assessment instrument is of great importance. For this purpose, an English-language adolescent stress questionnaire (ASQ) was developed, which assesses the subjective stress experience of adolescents in different areas of life (e.g., at home, at school, and during leisure time). However, the latest long version of the questionnaire with 56 items (ASQ-2) was found to be too extensive, so a more economical short version ASQ-S with 27 items was developed. The aim of this study was to validate a German and a Greek version of the ASQ-S. In order to investigate the psychometric properties of the German and Greek ASQ-S confirmatory factor analysis, analyses of variance and correlations were applied to sample data from Switzerland, Germany, and Greece ( = 1,071 seventh-grade students; = 12.53; = 0.76). The results yielded only poor to moderate internal reliability across all three countries and the suggested 9-dimensional factor structure could not be confirmed. Instead, a modified 6-factor structure was tested which showed acceptable model fits while demonstrating form invariance across the three countries. Furthermore, the ASQ-S scales correlated positively with depressive symptoms and anxiety and negatively with self-esteem and life satisfaction, all of which supported adequate concurrent validity. The results revealed that the utility of the ASQ-S appears to be limited when translated to other languages and should be used with caution when administered in international contexts.01A - Beitrag in wissenschaftlicher ZeitschriftPublikation Das Thema Gewalt in der Schule aus erziehungswissenschaftlicher Sicht.
