ICT and Innovation in Small Companies
(2007) Schubert, Petra; Fisher, Julie; Leimstoll, Uwe
The small business sector is very important to most economies generating significant wealth and employment. It has generally been accepted that small business owners are less likely to embrace innovation and less likely to have a well-defined business strategy. Yet for companies to grow and continue to be successful innovation is critical. Given the importance of this sector there is a need for governments and policy makers to understand innovation in small business particularly in terms of ICT implementation and use in order to formulate appropriate programs and policies. There have been few studies reported in the literature however, that have looked at innovation in the small business sector. This study investigated small Swiss businesses with 10 to 49 employees. A survey of 389 small businesses found that most see themselves as innovative and most use IT to support innovation.

The Importance of ICT: An Empirical Study in Swiss SMEs
    (2006) Schubert, Petra; Leimstoll, Uwe
The following paper presents results from a longitudinal study about the importance and use of information and communication technology in Swiss small and medium-sized companies. In an empirical survey, 989 questionnaires were collected and analysed (return rate 17 %). The results were weighted according to company size and industry sector and are thus representative for Switzerland. The findings show that Swiss SMEs ? in their self assessment ? manage to gain (competitive) advantages from the deployment of information and communication technology. ICT is universally used (even) in (small and medium-sized) companies. There is a high degree of inter-organisational ICT use. ICT know-how and awareness are strongly rooted in management. The general conclusion is that IT matters for Swiss SMEs.

Dramatically different price developments for mobile services in India and Switzerland and their underlying drivers
    (2005) Bürkler, Erich
Purpose - By comparing prices for mobile services in India and Switzerland, this article aims to highlight marginal differences in regulations ? besides other significant factors ? which can result in totally different price developments.Design/methodology/approach ? A holistic approach is used to explain the various drivers behind price developments. Besides costs (including licence fees), customer behaviours (summarized in demand elasticity), competitive behaviour (explained by the applied marketing mix) and termination fees (either as a price stabilizer ? if not freezer ? or as a relatively marginal cost component) represent the relevant drivers.Findings ? The comparative study underlines the crucial role termination costs play in dynamic mobile markets ? besides the usually stressed general cost levels and numbers of competitors.

    Handyromane - Made in Europe
(Salzburg Research Forschungsgesellschaft, 04.05.2009) Bendel, Oliver; Hornung-Prähauser, Veronika; Luckmann, Michaela
Mai 2009 in Salzburg statt fand.

Outsourcing of ICT: An Empirical Study in Swiss SMEs
    (2007) Schubert, Petra; Leimstoll, Uwe
Results from a longitudinal study on the importance and use of information and communication technology in Swiss small and medium-sized companies provide the basis of this paper. In an empirical survey, 901 questionnaires were collected and analysed. The results were weighted according to company size and industry sector and are representative for Switzerland. The data was used to run an extensive cluster analysis. Based on the identified clusters, several bivariat analyses were performed in order to identify the typical outsourcing behaviour of the clusters. The clusters were tested against four different statements regarding (1) experiences with outsourcing, (2) degree of outsourcing (buy or rent), (3) IT know-how, and (4) influencers for outsourcing. The results have a high statistical validity and allowed us to draw conclusions about the typical behaviour of cluster members.

IT Outsourcing bei KMUs: eine Bestandsaufnahme
    (2007) Leimstoll, Uwe
