The EMBG Reference Model on Electronic Markets: The Korean Case of Jodal
(Gemeinsamer Arbeitsbericht der Electronic Business Media Group (IWI-HSG) und der National Computerization Agency Korea, 1997) Kim, Eun; Schubert, Petra; Selz, Dorian
The Reference Model on Electronic Markets was developed to provide an overview of the different organizational as well as technical aspects one should pay attention to when assembling a comprehensive Electronic Commerce System. The model was developed by the Electronic Business Media Group (EBMG) at the Institute for Information Management (University of St. Gallen, Switzerland). In this paper we are applying the Reference Model on Electronic Markets onto the special case of the JODAL project that deals with the continuos IT-support of the procurement process within the public sector in Korea. In the end, one of the JODAL aims will be the integration of existing EDI procedures with newly built-up EC applications on the Internet. So far, only big companies could afford to apply EDI effectively.

A Framework for the Analysis of Socio-Economic Aspects of Electronic Markets
    (1997) Schubert, Petra
The Internet still lacks global acceptance of being a platform for user-friendly, trustworthy Electronic Commerce. Latest research in the field of Electronic Markets shows that there are, without any doubt, a number of socio-economic (social, psychological as well as economic) criteria which represent critical success factors for the global breakthrough of electronic shopping applications. Usually, forecasts on Electronic Commerce development focus on technical aspects, such as telecommunication infrastructure, security and speed. The following paper presents a theoretical framework for the evaluation of the socio-economic aspects to which all electronic business relations are also subject. The empirical results stem from the business case of the Electronic Mall Bodensee (EMB), an existing mall with more than 400 partners, companies as well as organisations, and universities, in the Lake Constance region (Switzerland, Germany, Austria).

How to Do Computer Ethics - A Case Study: The Electronic Mall Bodensee
    (1997) Bynum, Terrell; Schubert, Petra
In this article the authors present a model of ethical analysis and decision making for the field of computer ethics--a model that actually works for all areas of applied ethics. It is argued that a rich and complex fabric of ?policies for conduct?--a ?received policy cluster (RPC)--is used by computer ethics decision makers in a dynamic process similar to Rawls?s ?wide reflective equilibrium? (WRE). This ?policy-cluster model? makes use of Moor?s classic definition of the field of computer ethics and van den Hoven?s suggested use of Rawlsian WRE.

(Physica, 01.09.2002) Leimstoll, Uwe; Schubert, Petra

Personalization of E-Commerce Applications in SMEs: Conclusions from an Empirical Study in Switzerland
(Fachhochschule beider Basel (FHBB), Institute for Business Economics, Basel, Switzerland, 2002) Schubert, Petra; Leimstoll, Uwe; Schubert, Petra; Leimstoll, Uwe
Personalization of E-Commerce applications is an issue that is gaining increasing importance with the advancing maturity of such systems. There is already E-Commerce software on the market offering integrated E-shop and personalization functions. However, the available software is too time-consuming and expensive for SMEs. With this in mind we saw a need to investigate the potential for personalization from the particular angle of SMEs. Besides the theoretical fundamentals of personalization this paper will present the results of an empirical study. With the help of a survey we investigated the application potential for personalization tools in Swiss companies. The conclusions show that SMEs are (still) sceptical towards E-Commerce applications which include personalization. It furthermore becomes clear that the heterogeneity of organizational and technical conditions hinders the development of standardized tools.

(Josef Eul Verlag, 1999) Lechner, Ulrike; Schmid, Beat; Schubert, Petra; Klose, Martina; Miler, Olga; Engelien, Martin; Homann, Jens

Proceedings of the Ninth Research Symposium on Emerging Electronic Markets 2002
(Fachhochschule beider Basel (FHBB), Institute for Business Economics, Basel, Switzerland, 2002) Schubert, Petra; Leimstoll, Uwe; Schubert, Petra; Leimstoll, Uwe
Background of the Ninth Research Symposium on Emerging Electronic Markets (RSEEM)The Research Symposium on Emerging Electronic Markets (RSEEM) is an annual event destined to provide a forum for researchers for presentation and discussion of their current and ongoing work. In order to stimulate a lively discussion, the number of participants has traditionally been limited to 30 people. In 2002, we had two focus topics:E-Procurement and the Future of Electronic MarketsCompared to recent years, we wanted to further extend time for discussion. The forum serves two purposes. First of all it provides a platform for doctoral students to present their ideas and receive feedback from an international audience. Ongoing Ph.D. theses and projects are presented by junior researchers and input is given by the other participants. Besides, we asked for short presentations of visions of the future followed by a moderated discussion among the participants.

The Extended Web Assessment Method (EWAM) applied: do websites for consumer goods stand the test?
(International Institute of Infonomics, 16.09.2001) Schubert, Petra; Leimstoll, Uwe
The paper presents an analysis of four commercial Web sites in the consumer goods sectors. The Web sites were evaluated using the Extended Web Assessment Method (EWAM), an evaluation tool which has been specifically created for the assessment of e-commerce applications. EWAM builds on the Web Assessment Method developed at the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland [Schubert/Selz, 1999] and integrates findings from the Technology Acceptance Model [Davis, 1985] and several alternative approaches. It defines an evaluation grid including a set of criteria to appraise the quality and success of existing e-commerce applications. The focus lies on consumer perspectives and the specific features of the Internet as medium. The findings show that most Web sites are far from fully meeting user expectations. The paper presents the findings of an empirical study carried out in April 2001. Twenty students from an executive training class in E-Business completed the web assessment forms.
