Web assessment - A model for the evaluation and assessment of successful electronic commerce applications
    (1998) Selz, Dorian; Schubert, Petra
The original reason for the research was triggered by a disappointment felt by the authors when using the Web as research tool and business medium. Many sites feature fancy graphics, well organized content, but rarely a site induces the visitor to come back on a regular basis (with exceptions of course). The electronic commerce revolution some predicted experiences a setback due to a lack of consumer interest and some potential customers turn their screens rather off than meddling their way through a purchase order. But why are customers so indifferent? In fact most of the early World Wide Web entrance strategies have been rather driven by the inclination of an early adopters? strategy ?it is participation that counts?, than a sound business model for electronic commerce. Thus many companies and institutions discovered with surprise, that the comparatively modest budgets allocated to the development of their Web sites did not always guarantee success.

Selling Books Online: An Evaluation of Australian and Swiss E-Shops
(2005) Leimstoll, Uwe; Kurnia, Sherah; Schubert, Petra
The Extended Web Assessment Method (EWAM) is an evaluation tool specifically created for the assessment of electronic commerce applications. One of the oldest evaluation methods of its kind, EWAM has been revised and improved over the years. The method is based on an evaluation grid that includes a set of criteria with which to appraise the quality and success of e-commerce applications. The focus is on consumer perspectives and the specific features of the Internet as a medium. In this paper, we used the EWAM tool for the comparative analysis of Australian and Swiss Web sites in the retail sector, more specifically for the evaluation of e-shops whose main business is selling books. The findings show that most of the Web sites assessed do not fully meet the expectations of consumers.

(2005) Kurnia, Sherah; Schubert, Petra; Leimstoll, Uwe
The Extended Web Assessment Method (EWAM) is an evaluation tool specifically created for the assessment of electronic commerce applications. The method is based on an evaluation grid that includes a set of criteria with which to appraise the quality and success of e-commerce applications. The focus is on consumer perspectives and the specific features of the Internet as a medium. In this paper, we used the EWAM tool for a comparative analysis of Australian and Swiss e-shops selling grocery products. Using a comparative study between two different countries, we explored patterns for success or failure of such online applications. In general, the findings show that web sites in both countries do not fully meet the expectations of consumers. General expectations of consumers in online grocery shopping were explored and highlighted in this study.

Web Assessment: Applied to the Agreement and Settlement Phase
    (1997) Selz, Dorian; Schubert, Petra
One of the most profound consequences of the ongoing information revolution is its influence on how economic value is created and extracted. The new information infrastructure redefines the relationships between buyer, seller, and middleman, allowing new ways of accessing and tapping information, and price arrangements. Most importantly the information about a product or service may be separated from the product or service itself. Consider how most books are sold today: most are sold in bookstores all around the country. When Jeff Bezos of Amazon.com set up his online bookstore in Seattle in 1995, he saw an opportunity to change the marketplace. He created a virtual bookstore, holding more than 2.5 mil. titles, about ten times as many as even the biggest bookstore in the physical world. For best-sellers, Amazon charges 40% below list price, for nearly everything else, at least a 10% applies. Result: sales of $16 mil.

The Extended Web Assessment Method (EWAM) applied: do websites for consumer goods stand the test?
(International Institute of Infonomics, 16.09.2001) Schubert, Petra; Leimstoll, Uwe
The paper presents an analysis of four commercial Web sites in the consumer goods sectors. The Web sites were evaluated using the Extended Web Assessment Method (EWAM), an evaluation tool which has been specifically created for the assessment of e-commerce applications. EWAM builds on the Web Assessment Method developed at the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland [Schubert/Selz, 1999] and integrates findings from the Technology Acceptance Model [Davis, 1985] and several alternative approaches. It defines an evaluation grid including a set of criteria to appraise the quality and success of existing e-commerce applications. The focus lies on consumer perspectives and the specific features of the Internet as medium. The findings show that most Web sites are far from fully meeting user expectations. The paper presents the findings of an empirical study carried out in April 2001. Twenty students from an executive training class in E-Business completed the web assessment forms.

Web Assessment - Measuring the Effectiveness of Electronic Commerce Sites Going Beyond Traditional Marketing Paradigms
    (1999) Schubert, Petra; Selz, Dorian
Successfully conducting business on the Internet calls for new marketing paradigms that meet the requirements of the unique combination of its inherent characteristics: electronic markets, technological platform, and marketing issues. In this context, electronic markets are the framework in which market transactions are performed on the Internet. Underlying Internet technology forces marketing activities to be different from the ones applied to traditional sales channels and performance marketing is the essential ingredient for creating the best offering for the customer. The Web Assessment model unites these constituting characteristics into one approach for the evaluation of commercial Web sites. The Web Assessment methodology has been developed over the last one and a half years and the initial ideas have already been presented at conferences on information systems ([20], [21]).

Extended web assessment method (EWAM) - Evaluation of electronic commerce applications from the customer's viewpoint
    (M. E. Sharpe, 2002) Schubert, Petra
The paper presents and applies the Extended Web Assessment Method (EWAM) an evaluation tool which has been specifically created for the assessment of e-commerce applications. EWAM is one of the oldest evaluation methods of its kind. It has been revised and improved over the years. EWAM builds on the Web Assessment Method developed at the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland and integrates findings from the Technology Acceptance Model and several alternative approaches. It defines an evaluation grid including a set of criteria to appraise the quality and success of existing e-commerce applications. The focus lies on consumer perspectives and the specific features of the Internet as medium. In order to illustrate how the EWAM tool works, an analysis of commercial Web sites in two different business sectors - consumer goods and e-banking - was performed. The findings show that according to the assessors most of the Web sites assessed do still not fully meet their expectations.

    Umsatz-Turbo Webanalyse - Kennzahlen zum Online-Verkaufserfolg!
    (Netzmedien, 2010) Dalla Vecchia, Martina

An Evaluation of On-line Grocery Services in Australia from a Consumers? Viewpoint
    (2004) Kurnia, Sherah; Schubert, Petra
Study of online grocery shopping, particularly in relation to the evaluation of web sites that facilitate this service, has been limited in number. To enrich the existing studies, this paper assesses various Australian web sites in the grocery sector employing the Extended Web Assessment Method (EWAM). This tool was specifically created for the assessment of electronic commerce applications based on a consumers' viewpoint. The findings indicate that, in general, most web sites have not fully met the expectations of consumers. Strengths and weaknesses of the web sites are addressed. All this provides additional understanding of consumers? expectations in online grocery shopping and valuable insights into the slow uptake of online grocery shopping in Australia.
